Under Article 24.3 of the 1989 International Convention on the Rights of the Child, I am calling for the abolishment of orthodontic practices that are designed to stunt and restrict jaw growth in children.
Dear Lawmaker,
I firmly hold the belief that every child has a right to grow, unimpeded and I hereby ask you to ban the use of orthodonticgrowth restriction in children.
Given published clinical evidence, we know that orthodontic growth restriction, by way of headgear and other restrictive devices damages the airway and that this can wreak havoc on a person's life.
We know these procedures are prejudicial to the health of a child, and we know that there are health care professionals who would never engage in these procedures for the very reasons we mention.
In 1989, all countries of the United Nations ratified the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, giving every child a right to their normal growth.
Under Article 24.3, it ensured that all parties to the convention would take measure to abolish traditional practices that are prejudicial to the health of children.
I am hereby invoking Article 24.3 of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, and request that my lawmakers follow the international law they agreed to in 1989, and put and end to orthodontic growth restriction on children.
Sincerely,
